This year I started going to the The Pilates Studio on a regular basis using the 10-20-30 package, focusing on the reformer and it has really been a fantastic experience on many levels. First - my body: after every session I feel more connected to my body, more control over my muscles, and overall just better. Second - the company: all of the teachers are fantastic. Not only are they super knowledgeable and dedicated to helping each individual, but they are fun to be around. I look forward to every session! Third - the people: I didn't come here to make friends, but I have found connection with several individuals that attend the classes with me, and that helps me stay motivated and gives me even more reason to look forward to coming. TPS is a great studio. I recommend it hands-down.

I have been taking reformer (small group) with a number of wonderful instructors for a number of years. I started with Katrina and Jenny, and now work mainly with Suzanne. I love the fact that there’s nothing routine about what we do during these sessions. The exercises are tailored to your particular issues, and if you suddenly injure yourself while gardening, or playing a sport or instrument, you are given new exercises on the spot that target the problem and help you heal. It is like doing physical therapy and resistance training rolled into one. Actually, I much prefer going to the Pilates Studio than to a regular PT, because instructors at the studio know me well and can gage what I can already do, and what needs improvement. The other very important aspect is the easy-going, friendly, and supportive atmosphere : instructors are highly trained and very professional, but they have a real rapport with clients. People don’t go to the studio to show off. They go there to learn how to overcome physical limitations, seek release from pain, feel stronger and more energetic, regardless of age and ability. In the bargain, we often share stories, jokes, get a good laugh (mainly about ourselves). What’s not to love about this studio?

I can attend 3 classes in a 24 hour period and each one will be different and great! Say, Monday evening with Tristan who has a background in yoga, Tuesday noon with Kristy and her Classical Pilates, and then end it with Katrina (one of the co-owners) who has a wide knowledge of the apparatus Pilates and regularly teaches series for beginners, among other things. And then I can still go for the 5 pm class with Nancy where one never knows what's gonna happen - she likes to take out the Oov, for instance!! OK, so that's actually 4 different Pilates classes in 24 hours in one studio...well I'm sure you get my point; 5 stars, the best.

Evening reformer classes with Tristan are a must! Jump class on Monday nights and reformer class on Tuesday nights. She is an amazing instructor. She always comes prepared with new exercises to try. I have been taking classes with Nancy for the past year and a half. She is a master teacher with a fun personality and endless energy. I attend her 7 a.m. mat class three times per week and she strives to continually keep it fun and new. Of the many benefits to being a regular at The Pilates Studio, the most surprising is that after a couple of years, my spine unfurled to the point that my height now measures an inch taller in my fifties! Polestar Pilates is the best method I have found for getting rid of aches and pains and feeling strong and balanced. All of the instructors here are very gifted and helpful.

I moved from NYC and was sad to leave my pilates instructors there, but I'm so happy I found such a good new pilates home here. I've done private sessions, small groups, and classes with almost all of the instructors, who all have uniquely effective ways to help me improve my posture, strength, flexibility, and stability. I've never seen or used such a diverse collection of equipment and props, or a group of teachers so eager to invent new ways to benefit from them all. There's a great sense of friendly community spanning all ages and fitness levels, and I'm always excited to walk in the door.

If you think Pilates is just about abs, you are missing out on so much. The Pilates experience I've had at the Pilates Studio in Hadley is more like whole body wellness and like a form of physical therapy for any age. It's safer than yoga for the body and is making my body stronger and safer in all the activities of life. I kept getting injured with yoga even though I like it. Pilates has been a big help for me - with strength, balance, healing. It has magically helped me improve with dancing and coordination. The teachers at the studio are top-notch. Wow. I love the mat classes and apparatus classes. I like the variety of what they offer.

I am an older client who comes to the Pilates Studio in Hadley to work with an individual trainer twice a week. Generally I do not really feel like going to exercise what with past injuries and arthritis. However, after the first step inside this uniquely friendly Pilates studio I find the warmth and and good cheer of all the trainers, along with the upbeat laughter throughout the studio, begins to make me feel better immediately. By the end of each session I am always so glad I made myself come because I my body feels more capable and I feel thoroughly cheered up. The program my trainer guides me through is tailored to my individual needs and the philosophy of the whole studio is to meet the clients where they are and build from there, no matter what their capabilities. And that includes challenging the already super fit as well as the disabled. I have made more gains in my personal fitness and general feeling of well-being following the Pilates program than any other fitness program I have enrolled in. I enthusiastically encourage anyone to come and learn on their own how the Pilates Studio of Hadley program can enhance their life.

I know doing Pilates has improved my balance because nine months ago I was rubbish at bird dogs (being on hands and knees and reaching opposite arm and leg long). I could hold them for about 5 seconds and wobbled all over. Now I can hold them for 30 seconds and my form is good!

My improved balance is noticed most when doing my daily 2 mile hike in the woods each day. I was stumbling and falling way to much to totally enjoy myself out there plus I’d never look up because I knew I’d probably stumble again. What I noticed is that I’m looking up as I walk and don’t stumble! If I do catch a root and trip, I immediately am able to catch my balance before I hit the ground... but it just doesn’t happen anymore.... I love Pilates! It has improved my quality of life.

Kay introduced me to pilates and the Pilates Studio about seven years ago. It changed my whole body, my posture, made me much stronger, more agile and balanced, and taught me all kinds of tricks for managing back pain and working out the kinks from hours spent in front of a computer screen. Each class feels like putting myself back together again and it is a glorious feeling. Maybe it is the endorphins, the fabulous teachers, or the friends I've made there, but that feeling keeps me coming back. Nancy's mat classes are awesome!! Not being a morning person, I was a bit hesitant to attend her 7am mat class. However I was so glad I did! Nancy has such a positive, upbeat personality that she makes it fun yet still challenging. It was such a good way to start my day! Kristy has over 15 years of Pilates teaching experience. After completing a rigorous two-year classical Pilates certification, rich in anatomy and bio-mechanical mindfulness she has facilitated multiple full-apparatus and Mat instructor certification programs, educating classical Pilates instructors who now teach both regionally around the northeast and internationally.

I thought Pilates was some kind of torture exercise until a friend encouraged me to watch her class. Surprisingly the apparatus wasn't torturous, the exercises made sense and made me want to explore this type of exercise.
Finding The Pilates Studio in Hadley has been just what I needed. I'm fortunate to have Maureen as my introduction instructor and have followed her from small class instruction into the Bone Density Building class.
Maureen is Wicked AWESOME! She explains everything we're doing and why. She's always developing new exercises which keeps us interested and engaged as well as working all parts of our body. Maureen's calming influence and her wonderful "Ahh's", "That's it" and "Good job" are so warm and inspiring.
I have gained strength, am healing my shoulder and feel really good attending Pilates classes. The Pilates Studio is such a warm and inviting place as well.

I've been coming to the Pilates Studio for several years. Initially I did mostly mat classes, but more recently I've been participating in small groups, or in Pilates for Riders, or doing independent sessions. I feel that my posture has improved about 200%: standing up straight and not slumping have become the norm for me. I also feel like my sense of balance and my overall fitness--particularly core strength--are way better. Everyone is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They listen to what you want to work on, to what physical issues or limitations you might have, etc., and work with you, pushing you enough to help you improve but not so much that you risk injury or making issues worse.

If I had more than two thumbs I'd put them all up; but I'll settle for giving them five stars!

I know Pilates can be a bit pricey but the monetary investment is well worth it. As a 72 year old, I experience osteoarthritis in my knees; sciatica, stenosis and other “getting older” issues. As a result of Pilates I’ve been able to avoid some surgeries, and my quality of life has definitely improved. I would rather spend money investing in my health and my ability to move around than on doctors and drugs. What good is having a bit more money if you are unable to move around to enjoy! PLUS, the instructors are some of the best I’ve ever worked with. I am truly grateful.

I am fairly certain that Pilates has saved my life. One day, while working in the 2nd story loft of my barn, I was standing at the edge holding open the large side door where we would drop hay. A strong wind swung the door open, and because I was hanging on to the door, I started to fall out. As my life flashed before my eyes, I quickly let go of the door, but I was already falling out of the loft. I tightened every muscle in my core, back, and legs to pull myself back from over the edge and securely back on to the loft floor. It was terrifying, and I know Pilates made all the difference that day.

have been going to The Pilates Senter for a VERY long time, close to 12 years (before Laurie and Katrina took over and really made the studio the fabulous place it is today). When I was 50 I looked at other people I knew who were older than I , and asked how they kept so strong and fit and they said "Pilates". I had severe sciatica at the time and both a life and career that kept me
on my feet pretty much 12 hours a day. It was clear Pilates was the way I needed to go! From those first days working with Laurie, and then Katrina -and fast forwarding through lots of life and body changes which included a near fatal car accident 2 years ago at the age of 60, I have never been more grateful than I am today for the expertise and genuine care taken by all the practitioners at the Pilates Studio and most especially Katrina. Yes, it is very expensive! But having a body that can continue to work, and continue to gain strength, despite injury and illness is worth more than most things that one has to spend money on. I have modified what classes I take and how often I can take them over the years, to work around the ever changing finances. But I also respect so much Laurie and Katrina's continued commitment to grow (both through education workshops, classes for teachers and clients, improving and upgrading equipment regularly and attention to community outreach and resourcing ) that I know the money I spend is going to the right places. This is the best place I can imagine to exercise. Everyone is welcoming and there is lots of pleasant chatter to distract you. All the teachers are spectacularly trained by Katrina Hawley and are able to adjust what you do according to your needs. I’ve been through a knee replacement with them and I’m about to have a hip replacement and feel very well prepared. And there are lots of old folks like me (I’m 72), all having a great time together anytime I’m there. Also, of course, young marathon runners and those sorts but you don’t feel out of place at all if you are old and feeble! You are welcomed and met just where you are.

I have been doing Pilates regularly, on a weekly basis, for about 12 years, and I found it very helpful with a pain management. It's not only cheaper than co-pay at physical therapy, it is more fun and social. For my physical issues, it definitely works better than yoga did, I like the focus on mobility and toning and general tips for daily functioning. So yes, that's why I usually go for 2x a week at the Hadley Pilates Studio. The knowledgeable & friendly staff helps, too!

This is a truly special studio. The instructors are knowledgeable, kind and funny. The other people in the classes are friendly and welcoming, and the workouts are effective and joyous. (There’s nothing like laughing through a workout so that you feel good in body and mind afterwards!) My only complaint is that I can only get there when I travel for work - and that’s not nearly often enough. I really didn't know what to expect when I met with Katrina last year for her to evaluate my legs and hips after both of my hips had been replaced two years ago. She knew exactly what exercises I needed to rebuild my strength and balance. The pilate exercise equipment has given my back support so that I have been pain free during all of the training. In the small group I attend, there is a mixture of ages and abilities, and each of us works on our own set of exercises under Katrina's direction. She couldn't be kinder. Even though there are pilates studies closer to me in Westfield, it is worth it to drive to Hadley for the excellent training I experience there.

It's amazing how different the Pilates method is from straight plane strengthening. You get strengthening and lengthening of muscles in ways that translate more completely to real world motions. That's the science. The art of Pilates at The Pilates Studio comes from the skilled, curious, fun teachers who help and guide you every step of the way whether you're taking group classes or doing private work. Tristan is a relatively new instructor at the Pilates Studio in Hadley but she is not new to teaching and is very knowledgeable & experienced in Pilates and general fitness. I’ve been coming to the Pilates Studio for over two years. Suzanne has been my one-on-one instructor; I’ve been to Kay’s reformer class and participated in group classes with Katrina. All have been extraordinarily beneficial. I recently had knee replacement surgery and because of my work there, both prior to and after the surgery, my recovery time was less than expected and my ability to re-enter my life was aided by Pilates. I am unable to truly express my gratitude, especially to Suzanne, for her expertise, good humor and commitment to her craft. The Pilates Studio is the BEST. Ann H.

When the Sunday Mat class was canceled, I saw on a the schedule a morning reformer class. I never took a reformer class before. For the several years I have been coming to the Pilates Studio, I only focused on mat classes(really never going upstairs- just to the basement for mat classes). The reformer classes were more expensive and looking back maybe I was a bit intimidated. Well, since taking my first reformer class around the start of this year, I can say- the $ is worth it. I take reformer classes regularly with Ruth and Tristan and they are both great instructors. I am still amazed with how versatile the reformer is- how many leg, arm, back, core, combination exercises you can do. I feel great after each class, challenged and satisfied. Thank you.

I tried the Pilates Studio as an experiment, I’m sticking around because of the good vibes. The instructors are all very knowledgeable, as well as being cheerful, positive, encouraging and nurturing in their roles. If you have pain issues, asymmetries, and other bodily weirdness, they’re all great at accommodating your limitations and helping you find movements you can do instead of forcing yourself into poses that hurt. The cost is higher than a standard gym membership, but I’m getting such good instruction and encouragement that it’s worth it.

Just coming back from a week of vacation in the sun. My body was aching to get back on my Pilates Reformer machine more than walking in the sand! Now that’s saying something! I love Pilates!

I started doing Pilates at the beginning of my 2nd Trimester. Friends told me how much Pilates helped them so even though I was exhausted I wanted to give it a try. I loved it from day 1! It was the perfect way to exercise given how low my energy was. Kristy developed a great program for me. I've always struggled with what I call a "sway back" and I was worried about my belly getting bigger and putting a lot of strain in my low back. The Pilates exercises transformed the way I stand! A surprise benefit was that Kristy was able to help me with chronic knee pain I've had since spraining my ankle many years ago. I feel more balanced and comfortable walking and standing for long periods of time! I can't wait continue working with Kristy after the baby is born.

After 20 years of yoga I decided I needed core strengthening. I was apprehensive because childhood onset scoliosis caused me to be overly protective of my upper body. And then I heard about Katrina. She has made such a difference in my life. The extent of her knowledge and teaching skill is incredibly impressive. Katrina, Laurie and every one on the staff have created such a wonderful, welcoming atmosphere at the studio. I’ve been going there over three years now, private classes, then small groups and now that I know my exercises I’m doing independent sessions. I absolutely love the Pilates Studio!

I know Pilates can be a bit pricey but the monetary investment is well worth it. As a 72 year old, I experience osteoarthritis in my knees; sciatica, stenosis and other “getting older” issues. As a result of Pilates I’ve been able to avoid some surgeries, and my quality of life has definitely improved. I would rather spend money investing in my health and my ability to move around than on doctors and drugs. What good is having a bit more money if you are unable to move around to enjoy! PLUS, the instructors are some of the best I’ve ever worked with. I am truly grateful.

I took the Beginner Reformer series with Katrina and it is 5 Stars! The class was full - 8 beginners - but she did not have a slightest problem running around and paying attention to every one of us. A super neat thing about these series is that if you miss a class then there is make up/bonus class, which, if you signed up for the series you can also purchase as a bonus for a discount. That came handy to me given that I could not attend one Tuesday - but I loved this series so much that I would buy the 7nd class anyway 🙂 Katrina is very knowledgeable and experienced in all things Pilates, and I'll definitely try to take another series at this Studio - and they usually fill up fast so if you are thinking about some of the series then don't overthink it, they're a great idea and you will love it!

My physical therapist and a friend both highly recommended The Pilates Studio and I'm glad I listened. I've worked with Cathy for several months in both individual and small group sessions and I have hit the jackpot! In addition to being highly skilled and knowledgeable, Cathy is gentle, efficient, effective, relaxed, and creative. I especially appreciate how she thinks about me between sessions and figures out new exercises, props, or accommodations to try to meet my unique needs. I look forward to every session with her.

Since I started my Pilates practice three years ago, I have improved posture, strengthened my spine and have developed balance and overall strength.

I now have a greater sense of overall stability and can perform activities that require a lot more balance and coordination than I used to. I used to wobble all over the place and now I am steady and strong. I can walk around more confidently and feel like all four corners of my feet are securely planted on the ground. I know that my strong core will provide me with the strength and stability to remain balanced as I grow older.

I'd give 6 stars if I could. I've worked with Jenny, Kathy, and Suzanne to rehabilitate after a painful back injury. I couldn't do conventional mat exercises, so they developed a personalized set of exercises I could do on the reformers. Within a month, the pain had largely disappeared. Pilates helped me heal and gain strength; now I'm working on flexibility. I've continued because The Pilates Studio staff is so knowledgeable, professional, and supportive.

I took a bad fall two years ago. During my recovery I started Pilates reformer classes. I have been working on my strength, balance and core. I am able to step up on to the platform without panicking, perform planks and for the very first time stand on one leg and extend the other behind while holding the springs! I take Cathy’s bone density class on Friday mornings, and I just love it! Her course is well structured and moves at a good clip. She is extremely knowledgeable, and like all the other instructors at the Pilates Studio, she knows how to challenge us while giving clear instructions that emphasize safety. I have been going to The Pilates Studio for several years now and can only say great things. I wish I was more consistent with going, but when I do return I find that the mat and reformer classes all help with my low back and hip tightness. I especially love the atmosphere - I find that those sneaky instructors make my core work double just by making me laugh in nearly every class! The instructors are super knowledgable, and every class seems to have something new or different to keep it interesting. I recommend TPS to nearly every person I talk to who wants a good, balanced workout with fun and creativity. 5 Stars!!
